Ukrainian and Spanish developers of space equipment create new compact device for micro–satellites

In order to establishing a fruitful cooperation between Ukrainian and European designers of space science instrumentation specialists of Kharkiv National University named V.N. Karazin of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and specialists of the Polytechnic School of the University of Alcala, Spain, reached an agreement to develop a compact device of new generation. The device is designed for measuring absorbed doses of ionizing radiation, the fluxes of energetic particles in the environment and to study phenomena of single event effects in the electronics under the influence of charged radiation. Recently, three leading developers of telecommunication systems and software for flexible programmable gate arrays during the week worked together with scientists from the space research section of physical-technical faculty of KhNU named V.N. Karazin.

Foreign partners have been pleasantly surprised by not only the level of preparation for the joint work to develop collaborative adjustment of the laboratory model of the instrument, but also by modern technical equipments, knowledge of experts in various stages of the details of development and debugging of existing models. It has been worked recent experience - the development and manufacture of satellite telescope of electrons and protons STEP-F for the Russian spacecraft “Coronas-Photon". However, Spanish experts have also considerable experience in the development of space equipment, enabling them to become the main organization in Europe to elaborate EPD device (Energetic Particle Detector) in the ambitious project of the European Space Agency named "Solar Orbiter". After a week of hard work it was done not only integration the two parts of the device that have developed in various corners of Europe, but an experiment on the management of one part of a laboratory model of the device by another one. The seriousness of the next generation device creation is reflected in the fact that the Space Research Group of Alcala University on its web site https://srg.aut.uah.es has posted a page entitled "SIDRA", from which you can learn about the instrument and its next promotion.

Ahead - the most important in the development of the instrument SIDRA: calibration using radioactive isotopes and accelerators of energetic particles, experiments on the study of radiation hardness of RAM chips, thermo vacuum and mechanical testing, etc. But the first positive experience has been received!
Short reference - University of Alcala is rather known in Spain - it has more than 500 years old, more than 15000 students in many faculties, not only located in different corners and the center of the city, but also in neighboring provinces and even in Madrid. The city is also wonderful, historic, and attractive for work, study, life, tourism place. It is suffice to say that the most famous Spanish writer Miguel Cervantes - author of the famous "Don Quixote" was born in Alcala.
